INTERN EXPERIENCES

“The most unique thing about Eden House is the sense of community. The full-time staff is small, but the house runs because the staff works so tirelessly for these women, and everything that happens at the house is rooted in love. Interning at Eden House has helped make me acutely aware of my privileges in a way that I simply haven’t been able to in a classroom, academic setting. I’m inspired everyday by the residents and their hard work, and the efforts of the staff helping them get back on their feet. Even though the summer certainly did not turn out the way any of us expected [due to COVID-19], I’m thankful that my university experience was framed by my work at Eden House.”

-Abby Bean, Summer & Fall Intern 2020

“Interning at Eden House allowed me to expand my knowledge of the issue of human trafficking, how to prevent it from occurring, and how to help those who have been affected by it. This non-profit is unique in that it has a diverse staff comprised of professionals from multiple fields and backgrounds. Spending the summer with various professionals allowed me to discover the career I truly want to pursue and to recognize how important it is for differing professionals within the mental health and social justice fields to constructively work together. The work accomplished at Eden House makes such a difference in the lives of the residents as well as the surrounding community and it is truly inspiring. As an intern, I was able to work with individuals of various backgrounds, step outside of my comfort zone, and learn more about how to prevent human trafficking and help those who have been affected by it.”

-Julia Plauche, Summer Intern 2019

“Interning at Eden House was one of the most impactful experiences of my early career. During the year I spent at Eden House I learned many useful skills and gained a better understanding of the inner workings of a non-profit. Eden House is unique in the way it exists on the frontlines of human trafficking and sexual exploitation by providing intensive rehabilitation as well as legislative advocacy. I think one of the most empowering things I experienced was being in an environment where women were helping women. Truly, the best part of the experience was building relationships with those who live and work in Eden House.”
